Summary

The Alexandrian Society is a secret society of magical academicians, the best in the world。 Their members are caretakers of lost knowledge from the greatest civilizations of antiquity。 And those who earn a place among their number will secure a life of wealth, power, and prestige beyond their wildest dreams。 Each decade, the world’s six most uniquely talented magicians are selected for initiation – and here are the chosen few。。。

- Libby Rhodes and Nicolás Ferrer de Varona: inseparable enemies, cosmologists who can control matter with their minds。
- Reina Mori: a naturalist who can speak the language of life itself。
- Parisa Kamali: a mind reader whose powers of seduction are unmatched。
- Tristan Caine: the son of a crime kingpin who can see the secrets of the universe。
- Callum Nova: an insanely rich pretty boy who could bring about the end of the world。 He need only ask。

When the candidates are recruited by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they are told they must spend one year together to qualify for initiation。 During this time, they will be permitted access to the Society’s archives and judged on their contributions to arcane areas of knowledge。 Five, they are told, will be initiated。 One will be eliminated。 If they can prove themselves to be the best, they will survive。 Most of them。

After seeing so much about The Atlas Six on booktok, I wanted to love this book so badly! Unfortunately, it just didn't hit the mark for me。 The book started off strong and I loved the concept of this story, was intrigued by the main characters, and LOVED the magic system。 However, that excitement really just plateaued and I found myself skimming way more than I would have liked。 The book is extremely character driven, which may have been why it was too slow paced and underwhelming for me。 For a After seeing so much about The Atlas Six on booktok, I wanted to love this book so badly! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Started off pretty slow, was a little hard to really get “into it” until halfway through when the stakes were raised, and then it got very interesting。Gorgeous prose and very thought provoking。 I loved the magic/science system, it was really fun! Loved all the characters, but honestly GRRRR AT THE CLIFFHANGER UGH I thought this was a stand-alone 😭 eagerly awaiting a sequel

3。5 stars。 I was so excited for this book!! And I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series but it also wasn't AS great as I was hoping for。 The characterization is the main aspect of this book and although it's done really well, it does seem to drag on a bit at the end。 The plot pacing is a bit uneven and the ending is a bit drawn out。 The writing style at times reminds of the reason I didn't like the 'Invisible Life of AR', sometimes it seems like the writing style wa 3。5 stars。 I was so excited for this book!! This had all the elements of an overhyped TikTok book but it was a delightful read。 I give it a 4。5 because there’s no telling just how clever that ending was without the sequel to see ;)

I loved how the magical aspect wasn’t too fantasy but also added a fun little spice。 I need the second book now。 I have to see where some of these potential romances go。

*4 CONFUSING STARS*I have this nagging feeling that I'm way too dumb for this book。I mean, I enjoyed it, but I feel like I missed a lot of things, and sometimes this just felt like a big science crashcourse of which I only picked up about 50%。I had no idea what was going on by the end, but I still enjoyed it? Very peculiar indeed, I can't even explain it! There were some interesting aspects, but the story was super slow and a lot of unnecessary scenes that dealt more with unnecessary physiology rather than plot building。 I wish they built up the world a little more rather than focus on the relationships。 Also I didn’t like some of the characters, they were kinda flat and were annoying at times。

It was an enjoyable read with good world building and well-written characters that had me engaged, right up until the abrupt and very transparent sequel hook。 "Oh what's that? You wanted an ending to this book? Nah, gonna have to read the next one。" That alone was dirty enough to knock this down to 3 stars。 It was an enjoyable read with good world building and well-written characters that had me engaged, right up until the abrupt and very transparent sequel hook。 "Oh what's that? incredibly average。i see why some people like it a lot but i don't think it was for me。 i didn't really care about the characters (except libby and nico occasionally) and i was bored in a lot of the povs。 a good concept and i liked some of the topics explored but yeah something was lacking。 also the writing is good but i think because it's self-published there were a few lines that were clunky and hard-to-read, and some things i was confused about。 still will be reading the sequel tho。SPOILERS。n incredibly average。i see why some people like it a lot but i don't think it was for me。 i didn't really care about the characters (except libby and nico occasionally) and i was bored in a lot of the povs。 a good concept and i liked some of the topics explored but yeah something was lacking。 also the writing is good but i think because it's self-published there were a few lines that were clunky and hard-to-read, and some things i was confused about。 still will be reading the sequel tho。SPOILERS。nothing much to say but i will say i do ship libby and nico and will only be reading the sequel for them (and the nico x gideon potential because i also really ship that A LOT)。 a bit pissed their academic rivalry and banter weren't shown more。callum, tristan and parisa all piss me off because they're all so boring and i hate them。 the only one i can sometimes tolerate is tristan but i also am annoyed at him because he does nothing。reina i'm indifferent about but i guess i like her because she's cool and likes plants。 。。。more

A lot of fun, deeply pretentious, and self-indulgent but in a way that I'm willing to forgive。 I've been watching Hannibal for the first time recently and a lot of the conversations here remind me of of that show。 I。e。 not things anyone would ever say in real life, but that set the tone very successfully ("I find the trout to be a very Nietzsche-ian fish")。The treatment of the characters is a little uneven-- Parisa gets a lot of attention; Reina is vastly underutilized。 Blake mostly gives us a f A lot of fun, deeply pretentious, and self-indulgent but in a way that I'm willing to forgive。 I've been watching Hannibal for the first time recently and a lot of the conversations here remind me of of that show。 I。e。 not things anyone would ever say in real life, but that set the tone very successfully ("I find the trout to be a very Nietzsche-ian fish")。The treatment of the characters is a little uneven-- Parisa gets a lot of attention; Reina is vastly underutilized。 Blake mostly gives us a fair amount of complexity in the character motivations and behaviors-- it felt like I had a pretty good sense of most of them and she does a good job of drawing out the differences in the relationships that all of the six have with each other。 This is a very character-driven novel, so their relationships with each other takes up most of the book。 I do wish we'd gotten more of them as a cohesive unit。 The book talked a lot about how they've gotten used to each other and that can't be undone, etc, but they rarely seem to spend time together as a group。 Instead we get lots of one-on-one interactions where our understanding of the characters is generally broadened, but they don't seem to come away liking each other any better。The actual plot is pretty thin on the grounds, and that's the biggest weakness of the book。 Basically nothing happens for like 80% of it except character explorations。 We get told that the characters have all this power, but they rarely seem to actually use it。 Occasionally we detour into pretentious info-dumps where Bake lectures at us about time and physics and magic or whatever, that I was frequently tempted to skim。 It seems like they're basically taking classes together, even though this is a "fellowship", not actually a school? It's a little unclear what they're supposed to be actually accomplishing in this time other than reading random books and doing whatever they feel like as side projects。 If they're actually learning anything or getting stronger in their magic, we don't really see it。Good potential but needs more worldbuilding and a little less insufferability。 I'm willing to put up with a lot of BS in dark academia but this strained even my tolerance。 。。。more

I want to say that this book was ~no thoughts, just vibes~, but in the end, it was pretty much a book entirely about thinking and thinking about thinking and thinking about what others are thinking so that feels like the wrong thing to say。 I guess to put it differently, this a book whose plot purpose seemed to get lost in the atmosphere and relationships between characters。 Like I think I followed what was happening? I think stuff ended up making sense? I'm also very confused? I think stuff ended up making sense? I'm also very confused? Don't get me wrong, I'll be continuing on w/ the series。。。 (mostly to figure out if this is gonna be a Nico/Libby ship or a Nico/Gideon ship cause I think I'm team Libby, but that's mostly cause Libby *my anxious queen* has my heart and soul, but I could be persuaded)。 I'm curious to see if the hardcover release of this will change anything/shore up some of the fuzzy details and plot lines going on and, because I'm a hoe for some vibey dark academia and sexual tension, I will inevitably re-read this before moving on to the sequel later this year。 I wasn't as obsessed with this as I expected/wanted to be tho。 For me, the difference between a 3。5/4 star book and a five star book has to do with whether I'm skimming the details to find out what big plot/romance element in going to happen next or whether I'm so invested in the big plot/romance element that I'm taking twice as long reading all the details to make sure I don't miss a thing。 This book was definitely more of the former, especially since I feel like most of my investment in the story lay in trying to figure out if I was right about who was gonna hook up with who and not really anything going on in the "big picture" plot scenario。 I think it speaks to a kind of forced chemistry between characters that the only two pairings I shipped were the two sets of friends that had been close before the story even started and those were the only relationships that (romantically) didn't happen。 I'm all for hooking up with your super-powered co-workers, I mean, what else are six guys and gals locked in a library for a year gonna do? but I feel like there was supposed to be a depth of emotion between them all that I just didn't get。 。。。more
